Take-Two’s fiscal 2026 recovery combined stronger game sales with the disappearance of large prior-year goodwill charges. Revenue reached $6.66 billion and operating cash flow turned positive at $624.3 million, but the company still recorded a $298.2 million GAAP net loss. The subsequent June 2026 quarter was weaker: bookings declined despite revenue growth, margins faced an unfavorable stock-compensation comparison and development impairments, and operations consumed cash. Substantial investment in unreleased games makes launch execution and monetization central to future returns. Management’s August outlook anticipated a much larger fiscal 2027, with Grand Theft Auto VI scheduled for November 19, 2026; neither that launch nor the forecast results are established by the supplied disclosures. September’s replacement Xbox agreement preserves an important distribution relationship but does not establish improved commercial terms.
Long-lived franchises support recurring purchases, not guaranteed revenue
Rockstar concentrates on a relatively small number of enduring franchises, 2K combines owned games with licensed sports properties, and Zynga primarily operates free-to-play mobile games. Recurrent consumer spending—virtual currency, add-on content, in-game purchases and advertising—generated 78.1% of fiscal 2026 revenue. This depends on continued player engagement rather than contractual subscription commitments. The five largest franchises supplied 54.3% of revenue. Company-defined Net Bookings measures digital sales and physical sell-in plus specified ancillary sales; it is neither recognized GAAP revenue nor cash collections.
Fiscal 2026 improved substantially, but did not reach GAAP profitability
For the year ended March 31, 2026, revenue rose a reported 18.2% to $6,656.4 million and Net Bookings reached $6,721.0 million. Management identified NBA 2K, Borderlands, Color Block Jam, Toon Blast and Grand Theft Auto as growth contributors, partly offset by Civilization. Gross margin improved to 57.2%, helped by lower acquired-intangible amortization following earlier impairments, although release-related development amortization increased. The operating loss narrowed to $104.2 million, predominantly because the prior year’s $3,545.2 million goodwill charge did not recur. Tax expense on a consolidated pretax loss contributed to a $298.2 million net loss. This was a genuine operating recovery, but the accounting comparison magnified its headline scale.
Cash generation recovered while development remained capital-intensive
Fiscal 2026 operating cash inflow was $624.3 million, following two annual outflows. It already includes $688.9 million of software-development and license cash uses; fixed-asset purchases consumed another $162.8 million in investing activities. No receivables were sold through the company’s purchase facility, so factoring did not cause the recovery. A May 2025 equity offering raised $1,192.8 million net, while $1,150.0 million of note principal was repaid during fiscal 2026. Year-end unrestricted cash was $1,545.5 million, separately accompanied by $443.8 million of short-term investments and $92.6 million of restricted cash. There were no program share repurchases or cash dividends.
After the annual filing: weaker bookings and cash conversion
The August 7, 2026 Form 10-Q reported June-quarter revenue of $1,533.9 million, up 2.0%, but Net Bookings fell 2.6% to $1,385.9 million. NBA 2K growth partly offset weaker Grand Theft Auto and Color Block Jam. Gross margin fell to 57.5% from 62.9%: the prior-year June 2025 quarter benefited from a $41.0 million stock-compensation credit in cost of revenue, while the current quarter included $43.4 million of development impairments. Net loss widened to $34.1 million and operating cash outflow reached $168.8 million. June 30 unrestricted cash was $1,364.9 million. The increase in current debt principally reclassified April 2027 maturities; it was not new borrowing.
Management’s August release reiterated fiscal 2027 bookings guidance of $8.0–$8.2 billion and forecast GAAP net income of $104–$143 million, operating cash flow above $1 billion and approximately $290 million of capital expenditures. These remain conditional forecasts. GTA VI pre-orders began in June, but their financial contribution was not quantified; the November 19 launch remained a plan. September disclosures subsequently established an effective officer-liability charter amendment and an executed replacement Xbox publishing agreement, not new earnings or cash receipts.
Launch execution and platform access remain the central dependencies
At March 31, 2026, noncurrent development assets for unreleased titles were $2,149.7 million, making delays, cancellations and disappointing demand consequential. Five customers accounted for 80.6% of annual revenue; Apple and Google platforms supplied 91.0% of mobile revenue. Platform rules, fees and approvals constrain distribution and monetization. Privacy, children’s protections and random-item regulation can also alter game economics. June principal debt remained $2,529.4 million, including maturities in December 2026 and April 2027. The reported $997.5 million of unused revolver availability is conditional borrowing capacity, not cash or independently verified covenant headroom.
